Festival Program and Activities

Bringing together the best growers, producers and wineries from the Chittering Valley region, Flavours of Chittering offers a diverse program of activities and experiences at the Village Green (the Lower Chittering Hall) and surrounding wineries.

The free-to-attend Flavours of Chittering festival will feature a central showcase of the region’s flavours in a vibrant festival environment with a sophisticated country-style at the Lower Chittering Hall’s ‘Village Green’.  The location will see a range of the region’s gourmet foods and produce on hand for tasting and purchase, select local wineries showcasing their award winning wines, cooking demonstrations featuring local produce, traditional wood-fired pizzas using fresh local produce, live music to picnic by, and much more. Surrounding businesses will offer additional experiences and added excitement - from live music at various wineries to the opportunity to watch honey being harvested.  Enjoy the Fini Olives Art Exhibition at Riseborough Gallery and talk with organic farmers who will share their secrets of vegetable growing for the home.  Visit citrus groves serving their tangy creations including the famed Chittering Lemonade or stop in for a divine Devonshire Tea or local lunch before meandering back to Perth through beautiful local scenery, vineyards and orchards.

 

Chittering Growers' Market 10am to 4pm

Visit the Chittering Growers’ Market at the Lower Chittering Hall, where you can sample and purchase the delicious products of local growers and producers, taste wines from the Chittering area and enjoy music and local foods before moving on to explore the wineries and other food offerings of the area.

Chefs’ Presentations at the Village Green 11am - 4pm

Local and celebrated chefs and producers combine to offer a programme of cooking demonstrations throughout the day.

11am Local Resident Julie Mews and Lisa Hummel-Robson, authors of The Food Lovers’ Guide to Perth will prepare a risotto with local asparagus while providing tips on fresh, local and seasonal foods.

12pm Bindoon Bakehaus's award-winning pastry chefs will show how they prepare the bakery’s renowned orange and almond cake, and share recipes for baking the best bread

2pm Pâtissier and author, Emmanuel Mollois will tempt, teach, and tantalise. You'll delight in learning from this international chef. Enjoy the simple, but often unattainable, pleasure of learning how to make a traditional Tarte au Citron using Chittering Valley lemons and other French pastry secrets. Purchase a copy of his new book to take home and some Chittering lemons to try it yourself!

3pm The Cooking Professor, Peter Kenyon will draw on the many quality ingredients available from throughout the Valley to create Slow Braised Chittering Beef in Red Wine and a Moondah Chicken Tagine with Preserved Chittering Lemon.

Around The Valley - Visit the Wineries

Sip, savour and explore local wineries offering an eclectic array of live music, local food and flavours for every palate.

 

Stringybark Winery & Restaurant 3pm – 5pm (Map Ref 5)

Hear Spanish guitarists playing authentic flamenco music and delight in eating traditional tapas in a rustic outdoor seating area. Make your own platter at per piece prices, sample the selection of wines or purchase by the glass or bottle. Ph 9571 8069.

 

Briery Estate 10am – 4pm (Map Ref 6)

Relish the relaxed, country-style atmosphere with live music from the 60s and 70s and rustic bush poets offering a laconic take on the Chittering countryside, along with enticing roasted meats and other snacks to accompany wine tastings and sales. Ph 9576 1417.

 

Jylland Vineyard 12pm – 4pm (Map Ref 1)

Featuring their acclaimed vineyard cuisine with a selection of tasting platters available to enjoy in the picturesque vineyard ambience. Two-time Grammy winner, Lucky Oceans will perform his own brand of jazz, swing and blues. Wine available for tasting and purchase throughout the day. Ph 9575 1442.


Hartley Estate (Proudly presented by Christos Valley Estate) 10am – 4pm
(Map Ref 7)

Indulge in an array of Greek delicacies from souvlakia and soups to traditional sweets, jams and olives. Purchase the Estate’s jams and olives to take home. Take in the magnificent valley views or embark on a vineyard tour in one of their 4x4 buggies and view the Chittering Valley from its highest point. Kyotmunga Estate 10am – 4pm (Map Ref 2)

Share a Mediterranean platter or sample their home-made soups and bread. Talk to the winemaker and taste their wines, including the popular sparkling Shiraz. Try their EVOO, olives and dukkah, and pick your own organic mandarins to take home. Entertainment throughout the day. Ph 9571 8001

 

Riseborough Estate 10am – 4pm (Map Ref 3)

Riseborough Gallery will present the Fini Olives Inaugural Acquisitive Art Award and Exhibition, where visitors can peruse the entries while sampling the vineyard’s various wines. Tasting and sales available throughout the day. Ph 9575 1211.

 

Western Range Wines 10am – 4pm (Map Ref 4)

Enjoy horse and cart rides between the Flavours of Chittering Village Green and the winery. Bring a rug and indulge your senses with award winning wines, an artisan Chittering Picnic featuring local products and beautiful live vocal music. Ph 9571 8800. Book for the fantastic Flavours of Chittering Long Table Lunch when chef, Michael Forde from Cantina 663 teams with his existing supplier, local organic farmer, Wayne Brock to present a long table lunch at the Western Range winery as part of the Flavours of Chittering festival. The lunch will be a celebration of what is in season and grown in the Chittering area. Guests will be seated on one long table to enjoy a four course feast reminiscent of the European countryside, and featuring flavours from the Chittering Valley.
